Dorothy Ann Louise Rooke (nee Bain)
March 9, 1940 – March 8, 2025
Peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, March 8, 2025, Dorothy Ann Louise Rooke
(nee Bain) of Tillsonburg passed on at VON Sakura House Woodstock in her 85th year.
Loving wife of 62 years to Stuart. Loving and supportive mother to Vicki Rooke D’Aurizio and
her husband Joe D’Aurizio, Andrea Rooke and her husband Michael Kliem. Proud Nana to
Sarah (Damian), Jenna, and Lucas. Sister to Sharon (Brad) Hamilton and Randy (Anne) Bain.
Sister-in-law to Lyle (Mary) Rooke. Dorothy was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her father Roy, her mother Kathleen (nee Smith) and her brother Larry.
In 1962, Dororthy married high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Stuart Rooke.
Together, they created a home full of laughter, warmth, and love where they raised two beloved
daughters. She enjoyed raising Arabian horses, showing them in local horse shows and trail
riding with family and friends. With countless hours spent together on long walks in the woods,
Vicki and Andrea are proud to carry forward their mom’s deep appreciation for nature.
Dorothy was a loving mom and driven career-woman, who managed to make time for her
family, her hobbies and passions along with a successful career. She trained as a Health
Records Librarian, starting her career at Alexandra Hospital in Ingersoll and eventually
becoming the Managing Director of Health Records at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital.
In retirement, she spent many days in her gardens, creating a peaceful oasis where she
enjoyed her mystery novels (with many thanks to the Tillsonburg Public Library) and card
games with her friends and family. An avid golfer, she will be missed by many on the golf links.
She was also grateful for many years of friendship and faith with the community at Bayham
United Church. Known as Nana to her three grandchildren, she inspired them with her
unconditional love and wisdom. She passes on to them her sense of determination and
appreciation of a good game of Euchre.
Dorothy’s legacy lives on in her children, her grandchildren, and the countless lives she touched
through her work and her communities. She showed us that with enough determination, you
certainly can do it all. She will be remembered not only for the things she did, but the way in
which she did them – with kindness, generosity, intelligence, and an unmatched amount of
grace.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be
held at the Bayham United Church, Staffordville on Saturday, March 22, 2025 from 1:00pm –
3:00pm. This will be a drop-in event. A private family inurnment will be held at the Delmer
Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society
or VON Sakura House (Woodstock) would be appreciated and may be made directly with the
charity or by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-
5221) who have been entrusted by the Rooke family. Personal condolences may be sent to
www.ostrandersfuneralhome.com.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Jamal, Dr. Caperchione, and the
staff and volunteers of Sakura House for providing kind and compassionate care.
