Dorothy’s Obituary
Melanson, Dorothy Marie – Age 86, of Meteghan Centre, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 1, 2025 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. She was born in Mavillette on July 31, 1938 but lived in Meteghan Centre. She was a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Dorothy is now reunited with her beloved husband, J. Harry Melanson; and her father, Camille J. Deveau and her mother, Marie May Deveau.
She is survived by a daughter, Annice Melanson (Julien), Dartmouth; a son, Albert Melanson (Michel), Ottawa; a grandson, Luc LeBlanc (MaryAnne), Dartmouth; a great-grandson, Leo LeBlanc, Dartmouth, sisters, Rose Marie Deveau, Mavillette; Pauline Morrison (Ron), Halifax; Benita Doucette (Harold), Halifax; Anna Hill (Rick), Halifax; Simone Rochefort (Andre), Halifax; brother, Donald Deveau (Yvette), Mavillette; brother-in-law, Chester Melanson (Rosalie) Church Point; as well nieces, nephews and many friends.
Dorothy was well known throughout Clare for her work as a Personal Care worker and as an Activity Director at La Villa Acadienne for 25 years. She loved cooking for others, walking to the beach and visiting with friends. She was also known for her Christmas decorations that would span every room in her house during the holiday season. But most of all she was known for the love she had for her husband and children.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Meteghan Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at a later date in St. Alphonse Church.
Dorothy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Au Logis d’Meteghan and the 4th floor palliative nurses at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital who took such good care of mom in her time of need. Donations in her memory can be to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Dorothy is forever in our hearts.
