It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorene, age 72, of Falmouth, on Monday, February 3, 2025 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on October 22, 1952 in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Eugene and Helen (Thompson) Kitchen.
Dorene spent her working career at the Windsor Elms, Dykeland Lodge and Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home. She loved travelling, crafting and spending quality time with her lifelong friends and family. She was compassionate, organized and an extremely talented woman. Known for her ability for design, her quilts and cards were treasured gifts received by family and friends. Dorene’s love of travelling included any back road in Nova Scotia with husband, Donnie and also the exotic destinations of Dominican, Jamaica and Florida. Dorene adored her granddaughters and told anyone who would listen how talented and perfect they were.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald “Donnie”; son, Jamie (Kim), Falmouth; granddaughters, Nicole (Zack), Fredericton, NB; Rebecca (Kyle) Lasseter, Amherst; sisters, Kathaleen Kitchen, Kingsclear, NB; Verna (John) Eddington, Upper Kingsclear, NB; brother, Aulden Kitchen, Kingsclear, NB; special aunt, Gwen Thompson, St. Croix; brother-in-law, Garth Leary, Upper Falmouth and several nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, Dorene was predeceased by her son, Keith (2022); parents-in-law, Edward and Thelma Leary; sister-in-law, Joyce Leary.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 7. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, February 8, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private interment will be held at a later date in Centre Falmouth Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Dorene may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St, Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 or your local Foodbank.
