Obituary
Doreen Isabel Brampton (nee: Woods), aged 99, went home to her Heavenly Father December 31, 2024, passing peacefully at home. Doreen was born October 1, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario to parents Colinnette and Edward Clifton Woods. Doreen had wonderful memories of her family life, although her father died in her childhood and her older brother Ross during WWII. Doreen graduated from Western Technical-Commercial School in 1943 and began a secretarial career. She also attended Nyack Missionary College for a year before her marriage to the love of her life, Reverend Elmore Herbert Brampton in1948. They embarked on their shared calling into the pastorate, ministering in United Churches in Charlton, Singhampton, Thornbury, Loring/Port Loring and Paisley, and then in Baptist churches in Toronto and Whitevale. As well as their commitment to the Gospel of Christ, Doreen and Elmore were long remembered for the love and care they provided for their churches and communities. In 1965, both Doreen and Elmore began careers in teaching, and Doreen’s mother Colinnette moved in to help with the household. Doreen’s skills in administration, including typing, shorthand, and bookkeeping were instilled in generations of students at Milton District High School and Oakville-Trafalgar High School until her well-deserved retirement in 1986.
During their years in ministry, Doreen and Elmore were blessed with 3 children: Sheryl, Paul and Heather. After the death of Elmore’s sister and brother-in-law, their family expanded to include niece and nephew Mary and Steven Wood. Though school months were busy with teaching and studying, summers were full of travel across Canada and the USA. Love of world travel continued throughout their lives. As their children married and moved, they happily travelled for long visits to better know their grandchildren.
Family life also included church life. As Doreen and Elmore were involved in church and small group leadership, their family was involved in children, youth and music ministry. Deep faith in Christ manifested in commitment to people. As a prayer warrior she held to this Scripture from 1 John: “This is the confidence we have in God, that if we ask anything according to His will He hears us…and we have the requests that we have asked.” Many were greatly blessed by Doreen’s love in word and deed. This is a legacy passed to her children and their children; her example of faith and trust in God is carried on in their lives.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, Colinnette and Edward Clifton, brother Ross, son Paul and her husband Elmore. She is survived by her children Sherry (Chuck) Henke, Heather (Tom) Burns, and Mary (Gary) Eiceman and Steven (Margaret) Wood. She will be missed by her grandchildren Sherilyn Sweeney and Bethany Rich; Abigail Fowler; Daniel Wood and Luke Wood; Robert Burns , Jonathan Burns and Benjamin Burns. Her nine great-grandchildren are: Kaitlyn, Makenna and Emma (Sweeney); Izabella, Levi and Zara (Rich); Isla (Burns); Nathaniel (Wood); Lenora (Wood).
All are welcome to attend a service of interment to be held at 2pm on Friday August 22, 2025 at Springcreek Cemetery, 1390 Clarkson Road North, Mississauga.
The family is deeply grateful for the love and care shown to Doreen by the staff at The Village of Tansley Woods. Memorial donations can be made to the Wilfred Schlegel Hope Fund or to ShareWorld Global (formerly Gideons International).
