Obituary for
Donna Jewers
Donna Ruth (Sutherland) Jewers – Age 78, Sherbrooke, formerly of Brookfield. It is with heavy hearts that the family announces that Donna Jewers entered into the presence of the Lord on January 2, 2025. Donna was born in 1946, in Aspen, to Howard and Warrena Sutherland.
Donna is survived by her sons, Jody, Dana (Deena), and Alex (Angela); her beloved grandchildren, Abigail, Ty and Lauchlan, as well as her sisters, Shirley Locke and Joan (Kent) Nickerson, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Raymond Sutherland.
Donna was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College and taught briefly in Salmon River before marrying and settling down to raise her three sons. Family was important to Donna, and she was a wealth of information when it came to names of family members and distant relatives, even ones she hadn’t met.
She loved all things Disney and would often recall memories of a trip the family had taken to Florida when the boys were young. The theatre, especially musicals, held a special place in Donna’s heart and she often reminisced about the plays she had been in when she was younger. She was an avid musician and loved to entertain by playing hymns and songs, from her beloved musicals, on the piano. She also loved to sing and would share this love with anyone who would listen.
Donna’s faith in God was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devout Christian and attended the Knox United and Brookfield Baptist Churches when she was able. Singing hymns and quoting scriptures were a part of her daily life, often grounding her and bringing her comfort; we take solace in knowing that she is now at peace in the arms of her Saviour.
Donna’s family would like to thank the High Crest Nursing Home in Sherbrooke for the excellent care that Donna had received over the past couple of years. If desired, donations in memory of Donna may be made to the charity of your choice.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 7th from 3 – 6pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, NS. A graveside service will take place in the spring of 2025 in Brookfield Westside Cemetery, Brookfield.
