It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Ignatius
McIvor on Thursday, April 3, 2025 from injuries sustained in a fall.
Predeceased by his infant daughter, Donna, and youngest son, Scott, as
well as his brothers Stuart, Ian, Bruce and Noel.
Don leaves behind his cherished wife of 70 years, Betty, loving daughter
Lenora McIvor (Shannon Gray), devoted son Greg McIvor (Janet), beloved
grandchildren Liam Martin (Marielle Chartier Henault), Nicole McIvor (Jean-
Francois Chapman), Brennan Martin, Jonathan McIvor (Chantal), Dana
Chasson (Mark) and Kelsey McIvor (John Kelsey), adored great-

Stella Martin and Kim Martin, dear brothers David McIvor (Yvonne) and

Don, fondly known as “Sonny” to his siblings, was the oldest of 8 children
born to Donald and Mina McIvor in Belmont, Trinidad, West Indies. He
immigrated to Canada in the 1950s and met the love of his life, Betty
Muise, in Kapuskasing, Ontario where he made her his bride on March 12,
1955. They were happily married for 70 years, going through life hand-in-
hand while raising three children. Don enjoyed a long career with the
Government of Canada, retiring in 1985.
A lifelong lover of music, Don, along with his brothers, Alan, Ian and Noel
formed a popular Caribbean band that played in local Ottawa clubs during
the 1960s and was known for gifting music CDs he had recorded to most
everyone he encountered.
Don was a talented and prolific artist, producing many beautiful paintings
that he generously shared with family and friends and also enjoyed
exercising, curling and weekly ping-pong games.
Don loved people and was a gracious host and he and Betty held many
memorable parties throughout the years with their wide circle of friends.
Don will be remembered for his quiet strength, gentle heart, and
unwavering love for his family and friends. He touched the lives of many
with his kindness, and his memory will forever be cherished.
There will be an informal gathering/wake on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from
