It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Donald Langis, 84, of Moncton, on Thursday, January 9th, 2025 at The
Moncton Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Moncton, he was
the son of the late Alphonse Delphin and late Yvonne (Daigle)
Langis.
He will be sadly missed by his sister, Janice (Gerarda
Despres) of Dieppe; two nieces: Jacqueline Belliveau (late Mike) of
Dieppe and Christine Langis of Dartmouth, NS; one great-niece,
Jocelyne Belliveau of Dieppe; one great- nephew, Mason LeBlanc of
Saint-Antoine; one uncle, Yvon Daigle of Moncton; as well as many
cousins and many friends, special mention Jim and Judy Lounder,
Johanne Huard, and Camille Barolet.
He was predeceased by his two brothers: Raymond (late Sharon
Dupuis) and Bernard; one niece, Carolyn LeBlanc (Roger
LeBlanc).
He received several diplomas B.A., B.Ed., Masters es Art in
teaching English as second language, Masters in theology, several
certificates in theology and Media Studies.
At a young age, he worked for various cinemas in Moncton.
This created an interest in movies and theatre. He travelled
frequently to New York to enjoy many Broadway and Off-Broadway plays.
With this passion, he attempted to open a francophone cinema in
Greater Moncton, a project that was never fulfilled.
He worked at l’ie Acadienne,
L’Évangeline newspaper as a journalist, followed
by a teaching position as the Director of English Department at the
Vanier high school then Mathieu Martin high school.
Never leaving journalism completely, he would publish a
weekly review of newly released recordings. He had an impressive vinyl
collection that filled our basement followed by DVDs and CDs to this
day.
He then returned to journalism as director of Information at
L’Évangeline daily newspaper followed by manager
of News Services Atlantic Region for Radio Canada until his
retirement.
Once retired, and never idle, he was Pastoral Diocese
Coordinator in the Moncton Archdiocese, President of the Moncton
Chapter for the Association des retraités
français de SRC, followed by Vice President of the National
Chapter (francophone) to President. He was also active in the
Ste-Thérèse-de-L’Enfant Jésus parish
in Dieppe as committee president, member of the Moncton Press Club and
former member of the local section International Journalism
Union.
He loved socialising and travelling to Florida, Chicago,
Montreal, and Ottawa.
The family wishes to thank the staff of 4100 and 3600 units
at The Moncton Hospital for their excellent care, compassion and
professionalism.
The family will receive condolences at Frenette Funeral and
Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street, Moncton (506-858-1900) on Tuesday
January 21 from 6 to 8 pm only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at

church, 457 Acadie Avenue, Dieppe on Wednesday January 22, at 11 am.
Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary cemetery in Dieppe. In memory
of Donald, in lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Friends of The
Moncton Hospital Foundation or a charity of the donor’s
choice would be appreciated.
