Donald Giroux Death Notice
Don died peacefully, his family by his side, at North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Friday, April 4, 2025. He was 79 years old. Don was the beloved husband of Judy (Whittaker) of South River. He was the much-loved father of David (Jenn) of Powassan, Sarah (Sean Stafford) of Aylmer, JP (Hayley) of Waterdown and the late Christopher (1977-1994). He will be lovingly remembered by eight grandchildren: Layla, Bella, Blakely, Stella, Evie, Carter, Tenley and Auston. Don was the dear brother of Jim Giroux of Campbellford, Jane Dolphin of Ballantrae, Susan Ashton of Brooklin, Kathy Tonelli of Aurora and the late Carol Lally.
A consummate educator, “Mr. Giroux” was a revered teacher at Almaguin Highlands Secondary School. He was a member of the original staff from the school’s amalgamation in 1968 and retired 32 years later as Vice-Principal. Don’s faith was important to him all his life. Prior to entering the teaching profession, he attended the seminary for many years. Don’s “happy place” was the family cottage on Lake Nipissing, particularly surrounded by his grandkids.
The Giroux family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home, Powassan, on Friday, April 11, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 12 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Trout Creek, followed by an “Irish Wake” (Don’s explicit wish) at the Trout Creek Community Centre until 3:00 pm. Bring your best (funniest) Don Giroux stories to share!
Spring interment will take place at Powassan Union Cemetery.
