Donald Quinn Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald “Donnie” Quinn, age 73, on April 20, 2025, at his home in Westmount, Nova Scotia.
Born on September 26, 1951, in North Sydney, Donnie was the only beloved son of the late Elmar Tim Quinn and Ann (MacNeil) Quinn. He grew up surrounded by a large circle of close-knit friends in North Sydney, where his early years were filled with laughter, sports, and strong community ties.
At a young age, Donnie started working at “Buddy Guy Corner Store,” and after graduating from high school in North Sydney, he took a summer job at Marine Atlantic — a summer job that turned into a lifelong career. Donnie worked diligently in the office at Marine Atlantic until his retirement, where he was respected by his colleagues and known for his dedication and sharp memory.
It was in North Sydney where Donnie met the love of his life, Ann Walke. After several years together, they married, building a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Their bond was evident to all who knew them; they were truly soulmates.
Donnie was blessed with an extraordinary memory — an encyclopedia of dates, times, and events, especially related to his beloved hometown of North Sydney and Canadian history. Whether it was sports trivia — recalling the Montreal Canadiens’ 1976 lineup or the Stanley Cup champions of 1983 — or local happenings, Donnie could recount the details with unmatched precision.
An avid sportsman in his youth, Donnie excelled in hockey, baseball, boxing, and wrestling, especially at the old North Sydney rink, where he made countless memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Donnie is survived by his brother-in-law Robert Jardine of North Sydney; brother-in-law Sydney (Marian) Walke; sister-in-law Marilyn (Dan) Krauch; nieces Stacey (Barry) Babin, Kim (Grayson) Finney, and Cheryl Walke; granddaughter Corey; and dear family friend Sherman Blades.
Besides his parents, Donnie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ann Walke-Quinn, his sister Judy Mae Quinn-Jardine, and his nephew Corey Walters.
Visitation and Celebration of Life for Donnie will be held on Wednesday, April 30, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main Street, Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia.
Donnie’s kindness, sharp wit, and boundless knowledge will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
