Donald Bessborough George Devine passed away peacefully at the home, surrounded by his
loving family, on March 25, 2025. Don, who was in his 92nd year, was the devoted husband of
his late wife, Florence (Stark) and loving father and pillar of strength to Lovis, Larry and David
Devine (Karen), Dawn Devine-Neil and Kendra Devine Favaro (Brian). He was cherished by his
grandchildren, Larry Kitzman (Joanne), Leeanne Kitzman Doyle (Gary), Melinda Perry (Steve),
Jonathan Devine (Kristy), Ryan and Andrew Neil, Samantha Devine and Anthony Favaro. Don
was Papa to 11 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Uncle Donnie was adored
by his nieces and nephews. He had an unwavering love for his family and friends, prioritizing
their well-being above his own. He instilled in others the values of hard work, integrity, and
kindness. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to live on in their hearts.
Don is pre-deceased by Florence, his parents, Mabel (Tucker) and Harry Devine, siblings, Harry,
Walter, Howard, Ernest, Jack, Victor and Phyllis, daughter-in-law, Enika (Heinzmann), and dear
grandson, Jeffery Favaro.
Don was well known in the community, where family roots date back to the late 1800s. In his
youth, he played for the Galt Red Wings Jr. B team, following which he played in local industrial
leagues and the French Hockey League. Don also coached many local youth, and was a strong
supporter of all generations of his family’s hockey, ringette, baseball, soccer, music, art and
other activities.
Don was a member of Wesley United Church, and worked as a machinist at Joy Manufacturing,
Preston Metal and Linamar. He enjoyed gardening, travelling, doing puzzles and researching
family history. While his loss is difficult, the family are heartened that Don will be rejoining
Florence, his wife and soul mate for 70 years, who he deeply missed.
Don is resting at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St., Cambridge. Visitation will be held on
Sunday, March 30, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Additional visitation is set for Monday,
March 31, 2025 from 10-10:45 a.m. with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. Don will be laid
to rest at Mountview Cemetery in Cambridge.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in his memory to Heart and Stroke,
Hospice Waterloo Region or the charity of your choice.
