Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and nonno, Dilio, who left us peacefully on March 21, 2025, at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Elia (nee Giammarco), with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. Dilio was a devoted father to Luisa and Corrado DiNizo, and Dana Silvestri. He was an adoring Nonno to Marco, Gianluca and Cristina, Nicholas and Jessica, and Andrew, who brought him immeasurable pride and joy. He will be dearly missed by his brother-in-laws Dominic (Elena) and Eric (Erminia), along with his many nieces, nephews, cousins, compari, and loved ones in Canada, Italy, and the United States. He was predeceased by his parents, Domenico and Aquilina, his in-laws Antonio and Costantina Giammarco, his brother Tonino and Maria, his sister Virginia and Eugenio, and his brother-in-law Luigi and Silvia.
In 1956, Dilio immigrated from Cantone d’Introdacqua, Italy to Canada, and as a dedicated Hamiltonian he worked as a Crane Operator at Stelco for 31 years. Dilio was a role model to his family–always making time to attend everyone’s events and instill family values which he cherished. Dilio passed down many traditions including the art of curing meats and winemaking. Above all, he showed us all the importance of hard work, loyalty, and dedication, teaching us that anything is possible. A special and heartfelt thank you goes to Nonna Elia for all her unwavering love, devotion, and care for Nonno Dilio, it will never be forgotten. Over the years, Dilio and his family were very fortunate to meet many, many healthcare professionals, and we are deeply grateful to them for providing him with exceptional care.
Visitation will take place at Friscolanti Funeral Home (43 Barton Street E., Hamilton, ON), on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 2:00 -5:00 p.m. and 6:00 -9:00 p.m. Vigil prayers at 8:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church (20 Idlewood Ave., Hamilton, ON) on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Canada or Hamilton Health Science for research and support of neuromuscular disorders or charity of your choice.
