In Loving Memory of Klaus Sorento Dichmann
November 25, 1942 – March 22, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Klaus Sorento Dichmann, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and respected educator.
Born at home on November 25, 1942, in Copenhagen, Denmark, Klaus was christened at Grundtvig Church before immigrating to Canada in 1951. He attended high school at Lawrence Park Collegiate in Toronto where he enjoyed 5-pin rubberband bowling and playing baseball with his friends. Klaus pursued his passion for science, earning an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto (Class of ’66) and later completing his MSc and PhD in Chemistry in 1972, specializing in X-ray crystallography. His academic journey continued with postdoctoral research at the Université Laval in Quebec City.
Klaus dedicated his career to education, teaching Chemistry at Dawson College for several years before joining Vanier College in 1981, where he remained until his retirement in 2006. Beyond the classroom, he was a certified professional dance teacher in Latin and Modern styles, an avid skier, world traveler, Tandy Model 100 computer and ham radio enthusiast, and a lifelong learner. Klaus enjoyed licorice candy, Victor Borge, and watching snooker. We were the first family to have a home computer (TI-99/4A) and is his late 70’s he taught himself Python and built & programmed a mini self-driving robot. Klaus was known for his kindness, intelligence, and insatiable curiosity, embracing technology and new knowledge throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 30 years, Patricia Mohammed, his five children – Haldan Dichmann (Gill), David Dichmann (Cristy), Tara Dichmann Craigen (Mike), Laurie Laplante, and John Glasspoole – and his 11 grandchildren: Lillian, Julien, Andersen, Victoria, Malcolm, Harrison, Beth, Leonardo, Liam, Nathan, and Isaac.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life where we will honour and remember his remarkable journey will be held at Voluntas Funeral Home, 4695 St-Jean, Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Qc H9H 2A7, on Saturday, April 26, 2025 from 1-5 p.m. with tributes at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
