Obituary of Diana Raby
Diana passed away peacefully on Thursday March 13, 2025, in her 98th year at home surrounded by her loving family. Devoted wife of the late Benoit (2016). Loving mother of Gaetan (Pauline), Nicole Raby Roy, Lise Cosentino (Joe), and France Raby. She will be missed by her grandchildren; Lynne Bolduc (Peter), Lé-Anne Ryan (Shawn), Natalie Pépin, Rachelle (Sandina), Gaetan Jr, Alain (Heather), Jeffrey Cosentino, Stephane Roy, and Patrycia Macgougan (Derek). Forever remaining in the hearts of her 16 great-grandchildren, her 5 great-great-grandchildren, as well as her last surviving sibling Germaine Lacasse-Lachance of Victoriaville, QC. Predeceased by her parents Joseph and Albina Lacasse, granddaughter Michelle (Danny) Beauchamp, great-granddaughter Sierra Bolduc, and 14 siblings.
Diana was born in Lyster Station, QC, and moved to Welland in 1949. Mom will be fondly remembered as an avid euchre player and spending summers at the cottage. When she wasn’t working at the cannery, the vineyards, or the NRPS, she enjoyed ice fishing with Dad and knitting slippers for her family. Her love of family was evident with the long family dinner tables for celebrations, our “réveillons” at Christmas, and the weekly Sunday soups that were cherished by four generations. Mom made the best cabbage rolls and tourtières, a family favorite. Diana spent summers at their cottage enjoying their neighbors at coffee break and special events such as horseshoe tournaments, ‘kids day’, Christmas in July, pancake breakfast, pig roasts and corn and wiener roasts.
Mom was the matriarch of our family, strong and determined while being the one to finalize decisions for the good of her family.
The family invites relatives and friends to join them in celebrating Diana’s life at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main St., Welland on Monday, March 17, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. A church service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Église Sacré-Coeur. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.

Avec une profonde tristesse, nous annonçons le décès de notre chère maman Diana Raby, décédé paisiblement, le 13 mars à l’âge de 97 ans. Épouse dévouée de son défunt mari Benoit Raby (2016). Mère aimante de Gaetan Raby (Pauline), Nicole Raby Roy, Lise Cosentino (Joe), et France Raby. Elle manquera à ses petits-enfants Lynne Bolduc (Peter), Lé-Anne Ryan (Shawn), Natalie Pépin, Rachelle Raby (Sandina), Gaetan Raby Jr., Alain Raby (Heather), Jeffrey Cosentino, Stéphane Roy, Patrycia Macgougan (Derek). Toujours dans les cœurs de ses 16 arrière-petits-enfants, ses 5 arrières-arrières-petits-enfants et sa dernière sœur survivante Germaine Lacasse-Lachance de Victoriaville QC. Elle est prédécédée par ses parents Joseph et Albina Lacasse, sa petite-fille Michelle (Danny) Beauchamp, son arrière-petite-fille Sierra Bolduc et ses 14 frères et sœurs.
Diana est née à Lyster Station QC et est déménagée à Welland en 1949. On se souviendra d’elle avec tendresse en tant que joueur de euchre et nos étés au chalet. Elle a travaillé à la ‘cannerie’, les vignobles et NRPS alors que ses loisirs comprenaient la pêche sur glace avec son Benoit et tout son tricotage de pantoufles pour toute la famille. Son amour pour sa famille était témoigné par de longues tables à dîner, sa soupe à tous les dimanches, en célébrations et aux réveillons à noël. Ses tourtières et ‘choux roulers’ étaient dépareiller. Elle avait hâte à se rendre au chalet en été avec leurs voisins/amis, leur famille et elle participait aux activités du camp tels que, tournement de fer à cheval, ‘kids day’, noël en juillet, déjeuner aux crêpes, rôti de porc, mais, et chien saucisse.
Maman était notre matriarche, elle était forte et n’hésitait pas de prendre de bonnes décisions pour sa famille.
La famille et les amis sont invités à visiter le SALON FUNÉRAIRE WELLAND, CENTRE DE CRÉMATION ET RÉCEPTION, 827 East Main St., Welland, le lundi 17 mars de 14h à 16h et de 18h à 20h. Une cérémonie funéraire aura lieu le mardi 18 mars à l’Église Sacré-Cœur, à 11h. L’enterrement aura lieu au cimetière Holy Cross, à une date ultérieure. En guise de sympathie, des dons en mémoire au charity de votre choix desire seraient grandement appréciés par la famille.
