Desmond (Des) Gerard Matthews in his 70th year of London Ontario and formerly Dublin, Ireland, passed away peacefully in the care of Toronto General Hospital on Tuesday, March 25, 2025.
Predeceased by his beloved parents Johnny and Theresa, and his brother Sean. Des will be forever loved and deeply missed by his siblings, Eddie, Liz and Patrick, sister-in-law Carol and children Elizabeth (Jeff & step granddaughter Georgia), Rory (Lindsay & adored grandson Aidan). Des will also be deeply missed by his stepchildren Rachel and Zach Behar and by his large extended family including nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces, many cousins, and also by his many dear friends.
Des was well known for his work as an Automotive Technician and owner of Matthews Auto and will be fondly remembered for his warmth, witty sense of humour and generous spirit. He touched countless lives with his kindness and leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty and laughter.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
The Matthews family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff in the TGH Ajmeera Transplant Unit for all their exceptional care with particular acknowledgement to Dr. Aman Sidhu and NP Justin Struss.
