Muise, Derek William, 58, of Hebron, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025, from an unforeseen health problem. He was born on November 16th, 1966, in Yarmouth, to his parents, Fred and Rose Muise.
Even as a child, he liked to take things apart to see how they worked and then put them back together… sometimes leaving “Extra” parts and using his brother’s items first, if possible. He liked to share his opinions on news items or ways to do home repairs whether you wanted them or not but would drop his own projects to help out any family or friend that was in need. Derek enjoyed reading, carpentry, swimming, canoeing, fishing and competed in diving during his teenage years. He liked family get-togethers, and for a few years, he would set up July 1st fireworks on the lake in Wellington for the whole family, which the whole lake neighborhood also enjoyed. This caused the loss of eyelashes and arm hair until he perfected his lighting procedure.
Derek worked in several places right out of school, including Kentville and British Columbia, before settling on his preferred career of carpentry with Acadia First Nations, Graham Construction, and finally building a client base of his own in the hope of having a registered business. This idea came to a halt in 2019 due to health issues requiring
surgeries and many hospital stays.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in Yarmouth, Halifax Infirmary, and VG Hospitals who worked with him over the last five years, as well as the Paramedics and ER trauma team from February 26th. Thanks also to the VON home care nurses and to his partner Anne for supporting him through his recovery attempts in the past years.
He is survived by his partner, Anne Forbes; daughter, Cody Rose; son Erik and daughter, Kayla; siblings, Michele (Jerry) Winters, Rosemarie Muise, Sue Muise, Peggy Muise, and Wes (Darlene) Muise, as well as 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
He is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Rose Muise.
Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, at 3:30 PM, with a visitation beforehand starting at 3:00 PM. A reception in Jacob’s Loft will be held immediately after the service. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery for immediate family only at a later date. Family-only flowers are appreciated; memorial donations can be made to the VON, Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
