It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Deborah Ann Whiley (Pye), age 71, on January 25th 2025 at Hospice Halifax. After a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, she peacefully passed away surrounded by her two daughters and granddaughter, Ann Taylor, Crystal Whiley and Aubreyana Taylor. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Edwin Whiley, whom she missed greatly everyday.
Growing up as the youngest of 16 siblings, she remained in the family home (Bedford,NS) where she enjoyed preparing comforting meals for both family and friends. She will affectionately be remembered for her boisterous but good natured spirit. She was tough as nails with a tender heart. Her thoughtfulness and unique humour were sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Her two cats kept her great company over the last two years despite how much work they were. Debbie was a homebody who looked forward to her weekly visits with her granddaughter and loved her daily FaceTimes.
Debbie was employed by the QEII as a ward aide on the burn unit for over 30 years. She was meticulously organized at both work and home. She spoke fondly about her time working at the hospital and cherished the friends she made along the way.
She is survived by her two daughters: Ann (Shane) and Crystal ; and granddaughter, Aubreyana. Her sisters: Rose Marie (Bert), Gwendolyn (late Dave Rogers), Josephine (Kenneth). Her brothers: Leo (Mary) and Earl (Rhoda), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents: James and Edna Pye, husband Edwin Whiley, sisters: Jean Guptell, Madeline Bamburry, Bernice Julian, brothers: Joseph, Kenneth, Ronald, Gerald, Cecil, Donald, and Frederick.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation for the exceptional care and compassion given by Dr. Brian Ashton, Hospice Halifax and Lawton’s Mill Cove.
Cremation has taken place. As per Debbie’s request no church service or reception will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Halifax.
We find peace in knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life, Ned.
