Obituary of Debbie Josephine O’Brien
Deborah Josephine O’Brien, born on November 20,1951 in Halifax, NS passed away unexpectedly at home Wednesday January 29, 2025. She was the late daughter of Barbara Condran and raised by her Grandmother (Margaret Condran). She grew up in North Woodside on Cuisack Street surrounded by her cousins, aunts and uncles and it was there that she met her soul mate, Zane O’Brien with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Together they built a beautiful life together and raised their one and only child, Sherri.
Deborah embraced her most precious role as grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family and was a devoted wife, nurturing mother and loving friend. She was a source of unconditional love and encouragement to her family. She treasured every moment spent with them, especially drives to the valley, visiting local markets, walks in local parks, etc. She enjoyed shopping trips with her best friend and spending quality time with her grandchildren who were the apple of her eye. Deborah held many jobs, started at a transport company in Burnside, then went on to work at a jewelry store on Barrington Street for several years before starting to working for Sunlife Insurance Co. in 1970. She worked there for six years before landing her final job at Province House, Legislative Library. There she worked as a Library Assistant, loved her job and was very dedicated and respected by staff. After 28 years of service to the Province of NS she retired on Sept 1/2006.
Deborah is survived by her Loving husband Zane, her daughter Sherri (Colin) Taylor, her two beloved grandchildren Kelsie Jo and Kaiden Zane and her many siblings from Montreal, Ontario, Calgary and Mexico. Deborah’s life was defined by love, creativity and resilience, her adventurous spirit, devotion to her family and ability to inspire and touch those around her through her unwavering support and kindness. She will leave a legacy that will not be forgotten and carried on through the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Service will be held on Wednesday February 12, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Lifebranch Baptist Church, 10 Lancaster Drive, Dartmouth, NS with Reception to Follow. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1B9 (902-679-2822).
