MURRAY, Dean Kendall (April 21st, 1968 – May 4th, 2025)
Dean passed away peacefully at the age of 57, surrounded by his immediate family, at the Marotta Family Hospital on Sunday, May 4, 2025 in St. Catharines, Ontario. He is survived by his children, Emily and Andrew Murray, their mother, Jennifer Sims Murray, his brother, Shayne Murray of Stratford, his sister-in-law, Stephanie Sims of Welland, and his parents-in-law Mark and Hazel Sims of St. Thomas, Ontario. He is predeceased by his parents Wayne and Doreen Murray. He will be greatly missed by his loving fur baby, Lucy as well as his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Dean enjoyed a lengthy career beginning after graduating from Stamford Collegiate in the field of security. In his early career he worked as a tour guide at the Minolta Tower and a security guard the Greater Niagara General Hospital. He soon became employed by HOCO Inc in the Security Department and remained there for the rest of his career. Fondly known as “King of the Hill”, he was the manager of that department for over 30 years, training many young officers who went on to join a variety of police forces. He worked closely with the NRP and was a member of the Police Security Casino Alliance. In 2015, Dean joined Niagara College as a part time professor, teaching courses and labs in both Security Management and Police Foundations. He discovered a love of teaching and enjoyed teasing Jenn that she was “just” a teacher but he was a professor. His many students over the years appreciated the real life experiences and scenarios he shared with them and his easy going style to teaching and learning.
Dean’s family meant the world to him. He was so very proud of both his children and enjoyed spending time with them whether it was a ride in the Jeep, watching a football game on TV, or just laughing and talking together. Although separated for the past two years, he and Jenn shared a full life together during their 25 year marriage. He always looked forward to weekends and celebrations with his extended family and cherished the time we could all be together.
His passions included time with friends and family, cheering on the Miami Dolphins, collecting police patches from all over North America, as well as model police vehicles. His greatest passion was making others smile (or groan) with is jokes, pranks, and shenanigans. He was always the instigator of good fun, both at work and at home. Despite many years of health struggles, he always looked on the positive side and approached things with optimism. He made an impact on everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path here on Earth.
Visitation will take place between 2-4pm and 6-9pm at MORSE & SON FUNERAL HOME in Niagara Falls on Sunday, May 11th.
