Obituary of David Merill Straiton
It is with great sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of David Merill Straiton on March 21, 2025 with his wife of 46 years by his side. Born October 7,1944 in Pictou, Nova Scotia, David came to Ontario as a child with his parents. It was here that he welcomed the arrival of his sister and later, his brother. David grew up in Crystal Beach and later became a member of LIUNA Local 837, where he worked for many years until his retirement in 2009. On New Year’s Eve 1974 he met Francine (nee Jones) and they married October 26, 1979. With their marriage he became an instant stepfather to Lisa Benner (Dave Mallott), William Darton (Patricia), and Kimberly Kieffer (Paul).
Dave leaves wonderful memories for grandchildren David Benner (Jenn New), Nicholas Benner (Kyra), Melanie Benner (Brandon Graham), Kristina Baxter (Shane), Gregory Darton, baby Victoria Kieffer (late), baby Ryan Kieffer (late), Emily Kieffer and Alicia Kieffer. He was blessed with great-grandchildren Lucas, Mackenzie, baby Hudson (late), Hannah, baby Jacob (late), Ethan, Cameron, Brantley, Cecilia, and Niall. Dave will be sadly missed by his sister, Shirley Toth, and his brother, Douglas (Katie) Straiton. He will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. David was predeceased by his parents, John and Edna Straiton.
Williams Funeral Services in Ridgeway has been entrusted with arrangements and cremation has taken place. A Celebration of David’s Life will take place on Sunday April 13th from 1:00 – 3:00pm at The Clubhouse at Parkbridge Seniors Leisure Homes, 3033 Townline Rd, Stevensville, Ontario.
