David Lloyd McLaughlin, born on October 19, 1946, in Woodstock, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully in his home on February 7, 2025, with his three beloved daughters and his dear sister by his side. David was a man whose enormous heart and generous spirit touched everyone he met. His journey began in Woodstock, NB, and eventually led him to Bowmanville, Ontario, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Jean (Stiles) McLaughlin. With his characteristic humor, he once insisted he was older than Dorothy—even though she was six years his senior. Together, they built a modest bungalow on the family farm, a home filled with love and cherished memories over 55 wonderful years. His devotion shone brightly during the 11 years he lovingly cared for Dorothy, honoring her wish to remain in the home they both adored.
Known throughout the community as the “unofficial mayor of Newburg,” David was always ready for a friendly conversation, a hearty laugh, or one of his many hunting stories—some recounted with a twinkle in his eye, others kept as cherished family lore. His readiness to help anyone in need, even if it meant giving the shirt off his back, left an indelible mark on all who knew him. David is survived by his children: Donna Bowser Crandall (Mathew) Danny (Ivan) Bowser, Dennis Bowser (Lisa), Darla Lutwick (Darren), and Dixie Paul (Wulston) In his final moments, he was comforted by his three daughters Donna, Darla, and Dixie.
Following the listing of his children, his surviving brothers and sisters are: Robert McLaughlin, William McLaughlin and Carolyn (McLaughlin) Lewis .He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and generosity. David was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy Jean (Stiles) McLaughlin; his parents, Alfred McLaughlin and Myrtle (Arnold) McLaughlin; and his siblings Shirley Parks, Alfred McLaughlin Jr, Arlene Stairs , Phillip Mclaughlin, and baby Phillip Mclaughlin.
While we mourn the loss of a truly remarkable man, we also celebrate a life filled with compassion, humor, and selfless service. David’s generous spirit and warm presence will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Rest in peace, David. Your legacy of love and kindness will forever light our way.
Please note that there will be no services held.
