It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of David Harry Baxter, on December 28, 2024, at the University Hospital in London. It was a brief illness, and he was surrounded by his family.
Born in Hamilton on September 1, 1951, he moved to Walkerton at the age of 7. Growing up he enjoyed hockey, football, fishing and playing the drums in a band. He sure loved his sports and music!
After marrying his Pinkerton bride, they moved to the big city. He chose the Printing Ink business as his profession, which took him across parts of Canada and the USA.
Settling in Ayton with his family for the last 40 years, where he was active in the community – and this special village was family to him.
He had zest for life and a love for people. He had the “gift of the gab!” He was a friend to all who knew him and a stranger to no one. He was a man of immense humour and wisdom, cherishing every moment.
Fishing was his true passion, and he was proud to share “Lac Windy” with his family, friends and all of their families. Lasting memories have been made by all there.
In his retirement, he spent more time with loved ones on the West Coast, Newfoundland, and with his American families. He enjoyed some adventures in Europe too.
“Bax” was a very Proud Canadian and travelled and fished his Country extensively. He believed his Country was the best.
Survived by his loving wife, Joyce (née Cramm) of 53 years. Adored by his daughters Robyn Frook (Dwayne) and Andrea Baxter (Chad), granddaughter and sous chef Brontae Frook (Dallas), grandson and football partner Dalan Frook and great grandson Finlay, his sister, Dale Ashbury, his brother in law, Dan Cramm (Loretta), his sister in law Lisa Smith (Ian), his nieces, nephews and their families. Dawn (MB) and Brianna.
Predeceased by his parents Alan and Lee (née Yuzek), his sisters Bonnie and Carol, his mother in law Janet.
A come and go celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 19th from 12 – 5 p.m. at Trixie’s in Ayton. Bring a smile, a story and a classic one-liner too!
