Darren Williams Obituary
Darren Williams passed away on January 17, 2025. Left to cherish his memory is his mother Nancy Dickau (Ernie Riley); his brother Rodney Williams (Lindsay) and their children Atticus and Grayson; niece Danika Byers; nephew Barret Byers; uncle Mike Dickau; aunty Holly (Jim) Mayfield; and numerous extended family members.
He was predeceased by his sister Robyn (Williams) Byers; grandparents Doreen and Gordon Dickau, and Lewis and Dorothy Williams; and his uncle Dave Hill.
Darren was born and raised in Ponoka. After high school graduation (receiving numerous awards and scholarships), he attended NAIT in Edmonton where he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer Technologist. He was employed with Welltec until being diagnosed 16.5 years ago with several mental health disorders including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The diagnosis and living with the disorders impacted his life significantly debilitating his daily life until his passing.
Prior to the diagnosis he was a hard worker and a natural at any sport he touched and enjoyed doing anything with his hands. Growing up he enjoyed hanging out in the workshop with his papa and uncle, was on the swim club, played soccer, volleyball, basketball and golf. During high school he worked as a life guard, refereed soccer as well as worked at Wolf Creek golf course. The summer before college he worked at Beaverlodge on a gravel crusher. He went from being an extremely shy child to being confident and walking into a room with a huge smile and striking up a conversation with strangers easily as a young adult. His travels involved Mexico, Hawaii and Disneyland and his job took him to Denmark, Canada’s east coast, Gulf of Mexico, and all over Alberta. He loved to listen to any kind of musical instrument, enjoyed riding motorcycles, and loved to doodle and draw his entire life.
Darren was a “hero” of life, giving hope of life to 3 recipients through organ donation.
A family graveside memorial service will be held.
