Obituary of Darrell Adrian Edmunds
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
With his family by his side, Darrell passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025 at the age of 83, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Darrell was born May 24, 1941 in Birch River, Manitoba to parents Garnet and Iris Edmunds. He was the oldest of 8 children.
At the age of 15, he decided he would rather work than go to school, so that is what he did.
He was eager to learn and an older fellow took him under his wing and taught him how to run equipment. He continued to learn and could operate most types of equipment. These skills served him well throughout his life.
On September 2, 1961 Darrell married the love of his life, Geraldine.
In 1966, with their 3 children, they left Manitoba for greener pastures in BC.
Darrell found a job at Patchett Sawmill, and when it burned down, he moved over to West Fraser Sawmills. He ran forklift and he stayed there until retirement.
Besides being a hard worker and a family man, he was also an avid outdoorsman. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and quadding. He and Geraldine loved exploring different areas to find their next fishing hole. They did everything together. They were lifelong partners.
Later on when the children were grown and on their own, they travelled around to various old country music festivals. They enjoyed many evening jam sessions around a campfire with friends old and new.
Darrell and Geraldine also loved to dance and have been known to wear out a few dancefloors.
Darrell was predeceased by his parents, Garnet and Iris Edmonds.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Geraldine; his daughter Sheri Metcalfe (Brad) of Terrace, BC; his son Farren Edmunds (Alane) of Prince George, BC; his son Craig Edmunds (Lee-Ann) of Calgary, AB; 7 grandchildren: Tara, Melissa, Stephan, Alicia, Alex, Chelsea and Tristan; 12 great grandchildren: Bryson, Kolby, Kaibrey, Haileigh, Lindsay, Jace, Emily, Ava, Mira, Bella, Brooks and Ellie; brother Mel Edmunds (Lana) of Bowsman, MB and sister Donna Barnett (John) of Swan River, MB.
As per Darrell’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service. A private family and friend’s interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oncology Unit and GR Baker Memorial Hospital in Darrell’s name.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. VanDyk and Fab for their exceptional care as his family physician, the nurses in the oncology unit for the care over the past 6 months and the third floor nursing staff for his care during the last 11 days.
