Obituary for
Darrel Howard Phillips
Darrel married Mary Steffen in Edmonton on December 28, 1963, and would have celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary this year. They spent their honeymoon driving back to Fort St. John, BC with a car full of luggage to start their new life together. Soon after, they relocated back to Edmonton where he worked for Corrections Alberta for 37 years. During this time, he owned horses and became heavily involved with the Lakeland Rodeo Association, travelling and judging rodeos throughout Alberta. In 1984 Mom and Dad bought a hobby farm east of Ardrossan where he rekindled his passion for farming. He soon built up his herd of cattle and loved working in the fields. He also loved having his entire family participate in activities, especially when it came to vaccinating the cattle and rock picking! Everyone enjoyed spending time at the farm and many memories were made, especially with his grandchildren. Over the last couple of years, he fought a hard courageous battle with cancer and COPD. He passed away peacefully at the University Hospital surrounded by his family.
Darrel is survived by his loving wife Mary of 61 years; his children, Heather (Gordon Balbar), Ross (Tanya), Brent; grandchildren Chrystal, Dakota (Richard), Josh, Kaitlin, Alana (Chanse), Nikita (Trisha) and great grandchildren Chase, Ada, Bethany and Brooklyn.
Predeceased by his parents Ella and Cyril; brothers Ross and Larry and nephew Ricky.
