Obituary of Darlene (McIsaac) Brufatto, Lingan
It is with broken hearts we, the family of Darlene Brufatto announce her passing surrounded by her loved ones, at her home in Lingan on March 1, 2025.
Darlene, born on October 7, 1956, the daughter of the late Aloysius and Pearl (Burke) McIsaac, lived and raised her daughters in the family home in Lingan. A devoted mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend to many, Darlene put her family and loved ones first, always giving of her time, love and understanding. She was well known for her generosity and kindness she showed to anyone fortunate to know her. Whether it was lending a helping hand, cooking a meal to feed an army, endless baking of everyone’s favorite treats, making the best pizzas or babysitting her adoring nieces and nephews, she did it all with a smile, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humor.
Darlene’s family was her life, especially her husband, Donnie and daughters, Ashley and Brittany, of whom she was so proud. She gave true meaning to ‘mama bear’ when it came to looking out for them. She loved spending time with her family and friends and took advantage of any occasion to have a family get together. Her ‘fur babies’ also took up a big space in her heart and she loved to spoil them. Her special companion, Sophie, gave her much comfort and pleasure and stayed by her side till the end.
Throughout the years, Darlene worked at, and managed Tim Horton’s in Sydney and Glace Bay and more recently managed Fat Boys Pizza in New Waterford. She also provided homecare to several people. Darlene volunteered for numerous non-profit organizations and taught religion classes in the parish of Lingan. She enjoyed many years playing darts at Lingan hall where she shared many laughs with wonderful friends and family.
Darlene is survived by husband, Donald Brufatto; daughters, Ashley (Mark) and Brittany (Brittany Ruelland); sisters, Rita (Jim), Debbie (Garry), Alana; brothers, Al (Michelle), Kenny (Wanda), as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Louie Brufatto; sisters-in-law, Pauline (John), Patricia, Diane, Brenda; brothers-in-law, Jim (Bev), David.
Besides her parents, Darlene was predeceased by her sisters, Susie and Patsy; mother-in-law, Norma; sisters in-law, Jeanette, Barbara and Irene; brothers in-law, Francis, Gerry, Kevin and Terry.
We would like to thank the Palliative Care team for their exceptional care, and the VON for their devoted service. The family would like to express a very special thank you to Darlene’s earth angel, Vicky McMullin, for going above and beyond for Darlene and all the family. We are forever grateful.
Cremation will take place. Visitation will be held in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Wednesday, Mar. 5 from 5-8 p.m. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place Thursday, Mar. 6 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with father Jim Oliver officiating.
