Born April 29, 1971 in Columbus, Ohio, he passed peacefully at St Peter’s Hospital, Hamilton, Ontario on Feb 25, 2025 with his partner Shelley Carr by his side.
Daniel leaves behind his children Jacqueline and Thomas, his mom Karen, brother David, and many Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins on both sides of the border. He also leaves behind his beloved beagle Tuna, who adored him. He also leaves behind many great friends whom he went to school with or worked with in both London and Hamilton. Daniel was predeceased by his dad, Edward, whom he greatly missed.
Daniel was an alumnus of St. Martin Catholic School, Catholic Central High School, and Fanshawe College – Recreation and Leisure Services.
He was involved in the community in many unusual ways. He was a former member of the London Magician’s Guild, an active volunteer for the London Zombie Walk, and was mentored under the late Bill Paul, London’s Town Crier, as a balloon animal creator.
An avid bike rider, Daniel could often be seen speeding home on the Thames Valley Parkway on “Red Rocket” or “Baby”, one of his trusty steeds. He loved Hamilton’s rail trails and would often ride around the city in his free time.
At home, his pizza was renowned by all who tried it, and an invite for dinner was a special treat. He loved get-togethers and greatly enjoyed the impromptu hot dog roasts held at his apartment building in Wortley Village.
Daniel also holds the unusual title of being the only person to call the London Fire Department to find out if it was legal for him to practice juggling flaming torches in an open park. Turns out that, legally, he could. So, he often would just wander out to the Green to practice juggling, do card tricks, or make balloon animals for kids just for the joy of watching kids be amazed.
Daniel loved working with children and greatly enjoyed his time working for London’s Children Connection and at Appleby College (Oakville). Despite his illness, he continued to volunteer with the Corktown Community Association and Eva Rothwell Center.
Daniel has been cremated with plans to scatter his ashes in a dearly beloved place in London, Ontario, in May 2025.
Donations or tributes may go to GBM Slay, a support group for families coping with brain cancer.
Gone but not forgotten, Daniel leaves us with his favorite mantra:
“Life is Better on a Bike.”
