Dale Hayes Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dale Meredith Hayes on February 22nd, 2025 in Nanaimo, British Columbia at the age of 86. He was born on November 4th 1938 to parents Patricia and Alfred Hayes in Port Arthur, Ontario.
After graduating from high school Dale decided to leave Duncan with his brother and with pride join the Canadian Air Force which he then made his career for the next 30 years. He met the love of his life a few years later and married Julia Marie Lingenfelter on July 4th 1960.
Over his career he moved from St. John, Quebec, to Camp Borden Ontario, Lahr West Germany, North Bay Ontario,
Ottawa Ontario and finally deciding to settle and retire in Nanaimo BC. One of his career highlights was spending time in the Middle East (Syria) on a UN Peace Keeping tour for 6 months. In Lahr Germany, the family got many opportunities to travel and it provided us with a great education and an informed world view.
If there were two words that described Dale they would be kind and loving. Family, friends and his dog Bailey were his focus. He often talked about the Knights Of Columbus and the church being a big part of his life. Unfortunately, his health was tested the last few years and he was met with physical difficulties which curtailed his giving spirit.
Dale is lovingly remembered by his children Angela, son Mark(Sue) and Cathy(Shawn). He will be remembered by his brother Terrance(Suzanne), his brother in law Kenneth(Shirley), sister in law Sharon, devoted dog Bailey as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews . He is pre deceased by his loving wife Julia Marie Hayes, and his brother in laws, Peter and Jake(Lucille).
A mass and celebration to honour Dale’s life will be held at Trinity Catholic Church on March 14th at 11 a.m. Come join us to celebrate this special man that will always be remembered in our minds and hearts.
