Curtis Tait Obituary
Curtis McArthur Tait passed away peacefully on February 12th, 2025 at the age of 72. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Curtis grew up in Birch Hills and spent most of his life in Saskatchewan. His adventurous spirit led him to travel widely, from backpacking through Europe at 20 to later exploring countries like Australia, Costa Rica, Vietnam and Turkey with his family. He loved discovering the unexpected and sharing stories of spontaneous adventures.
An entrepreneur, Curtis owned three businesses: a grocery store at Waskesiu Lake and clothing stores in Waskesiu and Saskatoon. Visitors to Waskesiu in the early 90s might remember lining up for The Market’s oversized ice cream cones—a brilliant way to bring customers through the door. He also worked with the Canadian Scholarship Trust Plan for 25 years, proud to help families invest in education.
A thinker and dreamer, Curtis studied Commerce and Anthropology and was an avid reader who admired writers like John Steinbeck and Dostoevsky. He played hockey in his youth, enjoyed finger-picking guitar, and loved live music —highlights included David Bowie in New Zealand and The Rolling Stones in Regina.
A kind, patient, and hard-working man, Curtis had a quiet humour and a deep love for his family. He was a devoted father who encouraged his children’s dreams, no matter how far they roamed. He cherished gatherings with his extended family and always stayed connected to his roots.
Curtis considered his wife Colleen to be his angel. In his last years they resided in Gibsons, BC, where he enjoyed the serene mountain views from their backyard.
Curtis is survived by his wife Colleen; children, Noel (Johanna), Courtney (Joe), and Abby; grandchildren Bella, Lucas, Aurora, and Nickolai; siblings Murray (Jean), Joan, and twin sister Connie. Predeceased by his parents, William Tait and Lillian (Cartier) Tait.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you take a moment to call a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile. Find a moment of peace, even if it’s short. And remember that life is unpredictable, so enjoy the ride and be kind.
