Cpl. John Joseph Meers
1999-2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our son and
brother, John Meers.
A proud member of the Canadian Forces, Royal Canadian Dragoons, John
passed away on Monday 27 January 2025 at CFB Petawawa. Our loss is
profound.
John served at CFB Petawawa as a TAP-V driver and was a member of
Operation REASSURANCE at Adazi Military Base, Latvia where he honed
his skills operating remote-controlled aerial intelligence,
surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance drones. His unit
described him as a valuable team member and a kind, respectful young
man -hardworking, motivated and physically fit. He was a quiet
professional and a valuable part of every team.
John wanted to be a soldier since he was a young boy. He attained the
rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank of Boy Scouts. He also enjoyed
music, playing drums and bass guitar. He was an avid off-road
enthusiast mastering both dirt bike and jeep manoeuvring with
mud-encrusted results and always making it home. John found comfort in
keeping physically fit. He had a great smile, but you would need to be
very creative to catch it on film. His keen sense of humour,
thoughtfulness, and insight will be greatly missed.
Services will take place on 7 February 2025 at 1400 (2:00 PM our time
