Cora Elouise (Sabattis) Tomer
was born August 28th, 1946 in Oromocto,
NB. She passed on January
22nd, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. She grew
up along the banks of Wolastoq and was a lifelong member of
Bilijk (Kingsclear 1st
Nation).
She was a stay-at-home Mom,
this being her most cherished role and purpose in life, she
would relay. She raised six children and to her this was her
greatest achievement. Cora was a devoted, loving
Mom, a cherished sister, “the” absolute greatest
fan when it came to her grandchildren. She recently got to
meet her grandson Grant Leger (Adam’s oldest son)
whom she never met, but thought about often, this reunion
gave her such great peace and a sense of
complete.
Cora was adventurous and
always a willing participant when it came time to travel and
explore. She loved to share details of trips she made, some
of which her most memorable being:
Walton’s Mountain (Virginia),
Graceland (Tennessee), Alcatraz & San Francisco
(California). She attended a few concerts in her
day, two of the most memorable being Charlie Pride and Allan
Jackson.
Cora loved to keep traditions
alive with her family and although she didn’t
see everyone daily, she thought about them often. She loved a
good laugh and evoked warmth and happiness from those whom
she met on this path of life. Her ability to create
a calm environment was like no
other.
Cora was predeceased by her
son Adam Sheldon, father of her children Kenny, her parents:
John & Mary Sabattis, siblings: Ambrose, Molly,
Royden, Ann, Loretta, Jean, Maynard, Winnifred &
Wilfred, and Frank &
John.
She is survived by her sister
Rosemary, her children: Mary, special daughter Claudette,
Eric (Alberta), Sandra (Gabby), Paul (Cynthia), Gisele
(Chris), her godchild Shirley, many nieces and nephews,
grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter
Lacey(Harlem & Emily) and most recently great, great grandson
Walker (Cecelia & Brandon) whom she got to see and
hold before she passed.
Although we will miss her
immensely, we find comfort in knowing that she is no longer
unwell. The strength exhibited by Cora throughout the past
few weeks was indicative of who she was as a mother, sister
and grandmother and is nothing less than her way of
maintaining who she was throughout her life.
We take comfort in knowing that she was welcomed with open
arms by her parents, her son Adam, her siblings and those who
have gone before
her.
As per her wishes, there will
only be a family only service. We understand that
many are grieving from this loss as she had an impact
on everyone, she shared time with. Please honor her
by visiting her sacred fire anytime day or night for the next
few days at the Training Center located in Bilijk, Kingsclear
First Nation. Honorary Pallbearers are Gabby, Grant, Chris, Matthew,
Alex, Kenneth, Michael, Hunter, Gabe, and
Harlem
Let us remember what Cora
believed in and practiced; per Matthew 7:12 “Do unto others, what
you would have done unto you.” We can honor her by being
more understanding of others, less judgmental, and by loving
those who we still have in our lives with all our
hearts.
