Sadly, we announce the passing of Connie Haney, who passed away peacefully on March 18, 2025.
Connie was born in Savant Lake, ON, on December 24, 1948, to Einer and Helen Sanden. She was the fourth child in her family and spent her early years growing up in Sioux Lookout, ON. Connie was an avid baseball player and had a blast playing on her family’s sibling baseball team—she could throw a pretty mean pitch!
In 1965, Connie met her first husband, Robert Haney, in Hudson, ON. They moved to Atikokan in 1966, where they raised three children: Heather, Kelly, and Teresa. Connie enjoyed the simple joys of life—spending time in the bush, canning, tree planting, gardening, camping, and, most of all, being a devoted mother.
After parting ways with Robert, Connie met Michael (Mickey) Murphy in 1986. Throughout her life, she worked in various roles, including tree planting, chambermaid, and laborer at Tip Top Lodge. No matter what she did, she gave it her all and put her heart into everything.
Connie was a passionate Blue Jays fan, never missing a game on TV and even getting the chance to see them play in Toronto.
She is survived by her children: Heather (Denis), Kelly, Teresa (Paul), and Michael. Her beloved grandchildren: Elissa, Abbey, Kyle, Jon, Jordan, Dontel, and the apple of her eye, Connor. Great grand children: Ezra, Zoey, Indy and Lane. She is also survived by her siblings Violet, Jean, Kenny, and Mary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Connie was predeceased by her parents, Einer and Helen; her first husband, Robert; her partner, Michael; her sisters, Lucy, Barb, and Betty; and her special granddaughter, Amanda.
A small celebration of life will be held in the Common Room at Farthingham Court on March 28 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Atikokan General Hospital or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
