It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Colleen Dawn Gareau, beloved mom, sister, aunt and friend, on March 19,2025 at Brockville General Hospital.
Colleen lived a full life dedicated to giving a voice to causes and organizations who’s mission is to help communities. As a champion communicator, Colleen was passionate in making positive changes in her vocation as Director of Communications at the YMCA and volunteer work including Climate Change, Indigenous and Women’s Rights committees. Always striving to make the world a better place, kinder, inclusive and just for all.
Colleen was known for her unique sense of humour, wit, insight, intellect, eloquence with words, her generous spirit, infectious enthusiasum and laughter. She was the most exuberant cheerleader. Colleen could turn the mundane into extraordinary with her imaginative curiosity of all things. It was a joy to be in her company. She was brilliant.
Colleen love for her children, Heidi and Liam, was a beautiful mix of kindness, support, understanding, availability, protection and a generous amount of hilarity. How lucky her family and friends have been to share in her orbit of bright colour and warmth.
Colleen Dawn Gareau is survived by her children Heidi and Liam, sisters Evelyn and Diane, brother Carl, nieces Erin and Roxanne, nephews Dylan, Shawn, Robert, Mark and Danny and dear companion Finn. Predeceased by parents Gladys and Robert and brother Gilbert.
A celebration of Colleen’s beautiful life will be held on March 25, 2025 at Irvine’s Funeral Home. 4 James St., Brockville from 3-6 pm. A time of tributes and memories will take place at 5:30 pm in the reception center. Friends and loved ones are welcome to join the family in remembering her remarkable journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to, “Send a Kid to Camp” or “Work Hard Eat Well” at the YMCA Brockville, ON.
