“Here’s to our family’s strongest leader who set the tone for all of us to be successful in our own way. Colleen, Mom, Mim, Meemaw, has been demonstrating True Grit for many years, and we are thankful for being able to learn from the example of this amazing woman!”
Originally from Tilbury, Ontario Colleen was raised along the shores of Lake St. Clair, at times living in Michigan before returning to Canada and settling in Woodslee, Ontario. Colleen worked from a very young age to help support her family and despite an inconsistent and varied education, was a lifelong learner, an avid reader and an astute businesswoman who managed a family farm for more than 50 years.
Colleen was a talented artist, an avid bridge and euchre player, a golfer, a bowler and an enthusiastic traveller, travelling companion and loyal friend. She especially enjoyed her travels to bridge tournaments, sharing the fun with Joan Broeders and Aunt Edna Chevalier. She also travelled for pleasure and to visit her children and grandchildren wherever they lived.
Colleen was always involved in community life in Woodslee. Colleen was proud to be one of the founding members of the Woodslee Credit Union. A committed member of the Catholic Women’s League for 70 years, including several years as president. She also routinely volunteered in the community for provincial and federal elections and enjoyed any discussion about politics and progress in her community and country. Colleen will be sorely missed by her friends in her community.
The family extends their gratitude to Nourra Poisson and Nicole Santos who lovingly cared for Colleen over the last 2 months and the caring and knowledgeable staff at Erie Shores Hospice for their very gentle, respectful care of Mom and our family in her final days.
