He is predeceased by his first wife Diane ‘’Gilberte’’ Labelle and by his second wife of 30 years, the love of his life Shirley McChesney Martel as well as by his parents Bernadette and Alfred Martel and his brothers Ronald and Donald.
Loving father to his amazing children Therese (Paul) Lessard, Denise (Marc) St. Cartier, Helene (Ghislain) Pare, Sue (Claude) Belair, Claudette (Dan) Gagnon, Troy (Kelly) Richards, Wendy and Cindy. Cherished grandfather of Rachel (Dale), Ron (Tammy), Ashley, Jean-Rock (Breanna), Jenny, Caroline (Myles), Matthew (Brittany), Andre, Bianca, Samantha (Michel) and Matthew. Dear great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren whom he thought were a hoot. He also leaves behind his brother Marcel (Yvette) Martel.
Claude was a very caring man. He dedicated his love to not only one but two families. He took in his five daughters at the young age of 18. He dedicated himself to guide and care for them for the rest of his amazing life. Claude worked at the Dome Mine for over 40 years where he was known as ‘’ The Machine Doctor’’. Upon his retirement, he dedicated the last seven years of his life volunteering with the Alzheimer’s Society of Timmins-Porcupine and with the Golden Manor.
He had a very innovative mind and a great memory. He would entertain everyone for hours on end with his very detailed stories about his many adventures. Claude was also a Tim Horton’s enthusiast. He always ordered a medium coffee with two creams and one sugar and Timbits, don’t forget the Timbits.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Coutts, Bayshore and the staff at TADH for all their compassion and care.
Respecting his wishes, cremation will take place. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11a.m at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery (Section M, Row 13) followed by a reception in the LESSARD Funeral Home Reception Centre at 12pm (noon).
