On April 3, 2025, Ciprian Ioan Ostap passed away peacefully at home with his parents, John and Juliana, by his side to comfort him.
Born in Romania, Ciprian immigrated to London, Ontario with his parents in August 1994, at the age of 16. After graduating from high school in 1997, he was accepted to the University of Western Ontario to start a concurrent degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Before Ciprian was able to complete his degrees, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite the many medical challenges he faced, Ciprian was able to successfully graduate from UWO with a BSc in Computer Science in 2001 and a BEngSc in Computer Engineering in 2003.
Ciprian had a love of travel and a desire to explore new places. A highlight for him was the opportunity to study as a summer exchange student in Ulm, Germany in 1999. This allowed Ciprian to travel throughout Europe. Barcelona, Paris and Venice were his personal favourites. He was blessed and grateful to be able to have this experience before being diagnosed with MS the following year.
Ciprian can be described as someone with a strong will to live and a hope for the future, despite his MS diagnosis. John and Juliana traveled with Ciprian to Panama in 2009 so he could undergo stem cell treatment to help with the symptoms of his MS. While the procedure wasn’t as successful as anticipated, his parents believe that it did help him overcome many future health challenges. Ciprian never gave up his hope that one day a treatment or cure might be found for MS, and he fought bravely to the end.
On behalf of Ciprian and themselves, John and Juliana would like to extend a grateful thank you to Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church and Thames Valley DSB Adult ESL Community for all of their support, and especially to all the nurses from VON, AGTA, and all the PSW’s from Cheshire and Closing the Gap, who took such great care of Ciprian over the past 14 years.
Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., where a funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Ciprian are asked to consider the MS Society, VON or Holy Cross Romanian Orthodox Church.
“Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away to the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me…
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you. For an interval. Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner. All is well.”
