Christal Ann Olczak passed suddenly in the early morning of February 2nd after a long battle with addiction. Although it is devastating to lose a loved one in this way, Christal is now at peace and family and friends no longer need to worry for her.
Christal was the daughter of Deborah Shorten and George Olczak, born and raised in Port Hope, a town she very much loved, she made so many friends throughout her life with her outgoing personality, loving nature and great sense of humour. Christal had no children but would have been the best mother as she was so wonderful with children and cared for them so much, and children were drawn to her because she was so fun to be around, she was a kid at heart herself.
When it came to family, Christal was there for them as best she could be and would do whatever she could to help out, and we all very much appreciated all she did.
Christal had a little dog (Maggie) that she loved so much, she treated Maggie like her child, Maggie went everywhere with Christal. She is now being cared for by Christal’s longtime friend and partner Larry Holdershaw.
Christal loved spending time with her family especially at her mom’s trailer, she enjoyed biking with the kids, playing at the beach and boating, she loved to try new things and wanted to always be a part of the fun!
Christal struggled with drug addiction for many years and was doing very well for several years until she fell depressed again and went back to using, although she wanted to get help, she was not strong enough to seek it out, and unfortunately the drugs took over her life.
She was a beautiful soul and will very much be missed by her family and friends, her mom Debbie and step father Scott Shorten, her sister Kathy Boon and Geoff, her brother Cory Olczak and Nadine, her sister Kelsey Shorten, her nephews Kees and Henk Boon, nieces Aliah, Shanel, Arleigh, and Emilie Olczak, pre deceased by her dad George, her aunts and uncles, cousins and many friends.
There will be a private cremation and a celebration of life with immediate family and close friends at a later date.
If you would like to send a gift in Christal’s memory please give to the Northumberland Humane Society as Christal had a huge heart for animals and would have adopted all of them if she could have.
