Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Christabel Conway nee (McGrath) of St. John’s who passed peacefully away in her 96th year at Carbonear Long Term Nursing Home on February 19th 2025. Christabel was a beacon of love, strength, and compassion to all who knew her.
In heaven she will embrace her parents John and Margaret McGrath, her husband Jeremiah and her two sons Andy, and Cyril Conway. Christabel will also be greeted by her sisters Dorothy Coffey and Lucy Strickland plus her brothers John, Donald, George and Pat McGrath. Leaving to mourn two brothers Dave and Edward McGrath.
Leaving behind with cherished memories her children Jerry Conway (Rita), Bob Conway (Annette), Gloria Meaney, Geraldine Haire (Mike) Tony Conway, Marg Turpin (Dan), Monica Spurrell and Sharmaine O’Reilly (Bill).
Christabel has 18 grandchildren and 20 great children plus one great-great grandchild.
Christabel was so passionate about so much of her life including volunteering her time at The Basilica of St John the Baptist as a Eucharist Minister and the Basilica’s associated Food Bank. Her hobbies included walking, card games, bingo and most of all music and dancing.
The memories of her kindness, strength and infectious enthusiasm will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Carbonear Long Term Nursing Home 1 North for their special care, and sincere thanks are extended to dear family and friends who regularly visited Mom at Carbonear Nursing Home.
Visitation to happen at Caul’s Funeral Home at 84 LeMarchant Road on February 27th from 2pm – 4pm and 7pm – 9pm. A funeral mass will take place at the Basilica Catherdral of St. John the Baptist on Friday February 28th at 11:00 am. Inurnment will take place directly after mass at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
