It with great sadness the family of Joseph Christopher (Chris) Paul Tokarek share news of his sudden passing at the age 63, in Belleville, Ontario. Chris was born on December 27, 1962 and died peacefully in the evening of January 8, 2025 surrounded by his loved ones.
Chris was a Mimico boy through and through and proud of the community he grew up in. He was a hero to many and beat the insurmountable odds that life threw at him with so much courage, strength, determination and dignity. Chris lived a life filled with adventure, deep love for his family, and passion for the outdoors. Chris was also known for his love of nature and his very adventurous spirit. He fought forest fires, showcasing his bravery and commitment to protecting the environment.
A proud alumnus of Sault College, he enjoyed working with his hands as an avid landscaper and enjoyed travelling, fishing, camping and his many journeys across northern Ontario. Chris also relished moments spent playing ball hockey and during his younger years, was actively involved with Scouts Canada and in Venture activities. As a beloved brother to Cathy, Laura, and Mike, Chris was an amazing, loyal presence in their lives. He was someone to look up to, embodying pride and strength. His quiet demeanor paired with quick wit and positive energy created a warmth that was felt by everyone around him. Chris had a unique ability to light up a room, and his gentle soul will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his siblings Catherine and husband Gordon Wallace, Laura Gallagher, Michael Tokarek, his nieces Sarah, Abigail, and Allison, and nephews Adam, Matthew, and Christopher. Chris was also a proud great uncle to Jessica, Braeden, Nadia, Audry, Austin, Jack and baby Lukas, and is remembered fondly by his aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, from 1 – 4 pm, At G.H. Hogle Funeral Home, 63 Mimico Avenue, Etobicoke with the funeral mass taking place at St. Leo’s Catholic Church on Monday, January 13 at 10:00 am, followed by a reception at G.H. Hogle Funeral Home.
Rest in peace, Chris. Your legacy of strength, love and laughter will forever remain in our hearts.
