CHILTON, Lynne Marie
June 29, 1949 — January 8, 2025
Lynne Marie Chilton, daughter of the late Ron and Bernice Gunn, passed into the presence of her God on January 8, 2025. Lynne was the kind of person who made the world a little brighter just by being in it. Born in Kelowna, BC, and raised in the charming hamlet of Okanagan Centre, Lynne grew up with the water at her feet, the sun on her face, and a heart wide open to the beauty of it all.
As a young woman, Lynne struck out for the city, landing in Vancouver to work for BCTEL, making her mark in a bustling world far removed from the quiet shores of her childhood. But the call of home proved irresistible, and in 1975, Lynne returned to Winfield until her retirement.
Lynne will be missed by her beloved children, Melodie Long (Willy Ramirez) and Chris (Jess) Chilton; and her cherished grandchildren Dany & Jaxon Ramirez and Cooper & Griffin Chilton. She will also be held dear in the hearts of her sisters, Bonnie Schlosser (Del Schlosser), and Deborah Hiley (Dave Hiley); and her nephews and nieces Lia Avalos, Scott Schlosser, Bonnie Barrett, and Joel Barrett; and lifelong and dear friend Marilyn Bachen. She has gone to join her dear niece Heidi Schlosser who passed before her.
Lynne had a knack for seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. She didn’t just love flowers; she connected with them. Her garden wasn’t just a patch of soil; it was a canvas where tulips, roses, and all their colourful cousins told stories of hope and renewal in the springtime. And when the flowers rested in winter, Lynne turned her hands to preserving and baking and all things Christmas during the fall and winter months. Her passion for beading wasn’t just a hobby—it was an expression of her vibrant spirit, every piece of jewellery a sign of her care and creativity.
As a child, Lynne was what you might call a “water baby,” happiest with her toes in the lake and a pocket full of agates and flints, treasures from the shoreline of her beloved Okanagan Centre. That love of nature stayed with her, whether she was savouring the view from her deck, soaking up the sun, or watching birds flit among her flowers. Gratitude came naturally to Lynne; she wore it like a favourite sweater, always comforting.
More than anything, Lynne loved her family. To her, family wasn’t just important—it was everything. She lived her life with open hands and an open heart, valuing people over possessions, and pouring her kindness into every relationship (giving extra care to the downtrodden). Her faith was a quiet, constant presence; the time she spent with God, a thread of gold woven through her days.
Lynne’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm, at Winfield United Church (3751 Woodsdale Road, Lake Country, BC).
Lynne leaves behind a foundation of love, kindness, and beauty – a life well-lived, a spirit well-shared. She will be deeply missed.
