In the evening of Saturday, December 28, 2024, in Winnipeg, MB, at the age of 42, our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister dear friend passed away. The world lost a rare gem. Chidinma Okasia’s extraordinary life was a testament of love, kindness, faith, generosity and selfless devotion. She was brilliant, and intentional. When she spoke, it was with such confidence and poise that it was impossible not to be drawn to her. A passionate soul who gave her all to everything she touched. Her dedication was unmatched, her wisdom profound, and her love for people boundless.
Chidinma was more than a wife to Darlington; she was a friend, a companion and a soulmate to her husband, a rock of encouragement, and a partner in joy, love and laughter. Their love was deep and unwavering, with Chidinma standing as his greatest support and his “balance”. She was a devoted mother, she loved to dance and sing with her daughters, Natania and Joanna. Together, they filled their home with laughter and music, belting out songs at the top of their lungs during car rides – Chidinma was always the loudest, fun, most spirited singer. If there was ever a car singing contest, she would surely win!
A woman of unshakable faith, Chidinma loved God with all her heart and extended that love to everyone she touched. Her kindness, intelligence, and boundless energy inspired all who knew her. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel loved and cherished. Her presence was profound, and her love was contagious. She was the light in the lives of her family-cherishing her mother, siblings, in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and her students, each of whom she lovingly referred to as “her children.”
An educator at heart, Chidinma’s passion for teaching began long before she completed her degree. She brought her talent and commitment to every classroom, from her roles at the Communion School and Learning Ladders Montessori in Nigeria to her impactful work as a high school teacher at Springs Christian Academy in Canada. She found joy in making Math, Physics and Science fun to learn, always striving to help her students enjoy their schoolwork and succeed.
She also cherished the simple pleasure of watching favorite shows with her family. Chidinma loved her shows, and they made wonderful moments with her family. Some of her favourite Shows included Good Luck Charlie, Austin & Ally, Chicago Series and House, these shows were a constant in their home, watched and re-watched several times.
She also loved to cook and bake with her daughters, experimenting with new recipes from chefs she admired. Her kitchen was always filled with delicious aromas, and her food brought people together. But it was her heart-generous and full of love-that truly nourished everyone around her.
Though your voice has quieted, Chidinma, your song will echo in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, until we meet again. Know that you will forever be in our hearts.
