WEIR, George “Charlie” – Charlie peacefully passed on March 16, 2025, in his 90th year. He leaves behind his wife of ten years, Linda; his former wife of 54 years, Dawn Weir; his children, David and Cathy (Bill) Gwalchmai; his grandchildren, Brad (Heather) Gwalchmai and Lisa Gwalchmai; his great-grandchildren, Elaina, Gavin, Jayden, Owen and Quinn and his great-great-granddaughter, Rianne.
Charlie will also be missed by Linda’s children, Jeff (Jenn) Bryant, Craig (Katie) Bryant and Laura (Jeff) Sawa; his grandchildren, who affectionately called him Grampy, Ella, Lucy, Gianna, Carter and Xyyra. He will be deeply missed by his brother, John Weir; he is predeceased by his parents, George and Edith Weir, his sister, Donna (Henry) Thomas, sister-in-law, Maxine Weir and best friend, Charlie Boy (his beloved dog). Charlie will also be missed by many other family, friends, and former colleagues.
Charlie grew up on a farm in Cathcart, Ontario. After several jobs, he joined the Ontario Provincial Police in 1963. He was stationed at the London detachment until he retired in 1994 due to his battle with cancer. He was an active member of Wortley Baptist Church in London and a founding member of the first Canadian chapter of The Fellowship of Christian Peace officers (F.C.P.O.)
Charlie loved nature. Taking the family on trips with their trailer made many good memories. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his motorcycle. One of his favourite vacations was horseback riding out west in the mountains. Charlie took great pleasure in helping people in need, whether financially or in doing repairs and renovations.
A private memorial service for family and friends was held on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Interment will be in Burford at Holy Trinity Cemetery alongside his parents at a later date.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the F.C.P.O., the O.P.P. veterans fund or charity of your choice.
