Bennett,
Charles, age 71, of East Havre Boucher passed
away at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish on
February 19, 2025.
Born in
Antigonish, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Beatrice (Boucher)
Bennett. A beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, and skilled
tradesman.
A man with a
jovial spirit, a true entertainer, Charlie “the candy man”
was known for his adventurous nature and love of the outdoors. Whether
he was ice fishing, hiking through the woods, watching the kids play
hockey, or spending time at the cottage, Charlie was at his happiest
when he was outside with his family. He also had a deep love for
cooking, especially when shared with his honey Rosie. His generosity
and kindness knew no bounds, and he took great joy in hosting big
meals with his family, ensuring no one left his home hungry. Charlie
was over the top with his terms of endearment for those he loved,
particularly to his wife of 44 years Rose. Gardening also brought him
great joy, and in his later years, he became particularly passionate
about growing garlic.
Charlie was a
craftsman in the art of concrete finishing, a trade he dedicated over
50 years of his life. Owner of C. W. Bennett Cement Finishing since
1987. During this time, he generously shared his skills with many
young men in the community, especially his sons, ensuring that his
craft would carry on for generations.
In his younger
years, Charlie was Class Valedictorian, Prom King, and a lover of
sports, particularly gymnastics. His natural comedic talent and
storytelling ability kept everyone around him entertained, he was
larger than life. Through Charlie, we developed character, moral
toughness, work ethic, and empathy. His legacy will live on in his
children and grandchildren, who will carry his spirit forward with
pride. His love of life, his kindness, and his infectious laughter
will never be forgotten. He is survived by his beloved wife, Rose
(Pelrine), children: Jennifer, Curtis (Catherine), Nicholas (Beth) and
Jamie all of Havre Boucher, grandchildren: Ella, Bhreagh, Nate, Beau,
Aria, Myles and Layla, siblings: Lloyd (Mary), Wayne (Theresa), Gerald
(Nancy), all of Powell River, BC, Sharon Pinkohs, Lanark, Joan (Ron)
Bayne, Antigonish, Emerson (Anita), Antigonish, Tony (Kelly), East
Havre Boucher, Craig (Cindy), Antigonish. He was predeceased by his
sister Heather Broussard and brother in law Ulrich
Pinkohs.
Special thanks
to everyone who supported him along his journey, notably family,
nurses, doctors, and support staff. He was very well taken care of,
and we will be forever grateful.
