Reid, Catherine “Cathy”
Cathy passed away suddenly, but peacefully and without pain on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Peterborough Health Sciences Centre—just 19 days after the passing of her beloved husband, Ernie. She left joyfully singing how much she loved her family, and her cherished husband, she affectionately called “Hunni”.
Cathy was the devoted wife and best friend of Ernie for 50 wonderful years. Her love and loyalty to him were unwavering, especially in the last decade of his life, which she dedicated entirely to caring for him through his health challenges.
A loving and supportive mother to Larry, Bonnie, Beverly, Terry, Ernie Jr., and Amanda, Cathy was also a proud and beloved mother-in-law to their spouses. She was the heart of a large, close-knit family, and her greatest joy came from her grandchildren: Tommy, Chad, Adam, Joshua, Tamarai, Kristen, Sydney, Isabella, Sarah, Sophia, Hannah, and Elizabeth. She was also a cherished great-Nanny—to Dylan, Bentley, Ella, Lily, and Cooper. Sadly missed by her loving companion “Lady”.
Cathy is survived by her brother, Joe Martindale (Charlotte), Ricky Martindale (Lynn), and was predeceased by her beloved sisters, Lois and Helen. She will be lovingly remembered by her extended family and many friends.
A nurturing, thoughtful, and welcoming woman, Cathy left a lasting impression on everyone she met. To her, family was everything—and everyone was family. She had a special way with children and adored them deeply. This love was reflected not only in her home life, but also in her career, where she spent many years supporting children in the education sector.
Cathy had a strong will and quiet determination, but always showed a soft and tender side. She loved Tetley tea, had a passion for watching sports, and was never happier than when surrounded by loved ones—or her loyal dog, Lady. She and Ernie shared a deep love for the laughter and joy that their family brought into their lives.

Please join with the family to Celebrate Cathy’s Life at A Memorial Service in the Chapel of Armstrong Funeral Home, 124 King Street East, Oshawa on Friday May 23 at 11am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held just prior to the service from 10:30 am to 11am.
