Catherine Jane Lonsdale (Franz), born on February 28th, 1951 in Loon Lake, Saskatchewan was welcomed into her heavenly home and the arms of Jesus on December 18th, 2024 after a valiant battle with Cancer.
“Cathy”, as she was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, and unwavering faith in God. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and many more whose lives were touched by her. We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Cathy truly touched hearts (and filled tummies) wherever she went.
Cathy is survived by her loving husband Thomas Lonsdale; children Stuart (Dawne) Lonsdale, and Joyce (Timothy) Calkins; grandchildren Nolan (Renae) Lonsdale, Riley Lonsdale, Eden Newberry, and Eilidh & Emerson Calkins; great-grandchildren Cohen Lonsdale and Bennett Lonsdale; Cathy is additionally survived by her sister Dorthy (Duane) Miles; nieces Candace McNary and Alicia Navin; nephews Cody (Breanna) Miles, Dalton (Brandi) Horn, and Steven (Pam) Horn; sisters-in-law Marjorie (Bruce) Horn and Lorna (Patrick) Navin; Cathy also leaves many cousins and uncles and aunts she cared deeply for. Cathy was predeceased by her father and mother Lawerence and Edith Franz; her cherished son Terence Lonsdale; brother Ivor Franz; brother-in-law Floyd Lonsdale, sisters-in-law Lila Lonsdale and Rebecca Lonsdale; and nephew Rolly Lonsdale.
Cathy’s pride and joy were her Grandchildren and great Grandchildren – she showered them with care and affection and prayers. An avid gardener, Cathy loved all things flowers, birds and nature walks with her dog Allie. Cathy loved to demonstrate love to others through her talents in cooking and canning/preserving, not only did she make this a career she was always found whipping up recipes for her family, friends, and church community. Cathy also made sure to provide and assist with school lunch programs within her own community as also across Alberta, all children were a precious part of her heart. Cathy also volunteered at the Bashaw Thrift Shop until she was no longer able to due to her health. A farmer’s daughter, Cathy loved all things antique and country as well as the outdoors often listening to the birds chirping over a cup of coffee while doing her daily devotionals.
Those who knew Cathy will remember her amazingly kind eyes and caring heart and her deep-rooted faith in Jesus. Catherine had unwavering commitment to spreading love and kindness to everyone she encountered – living and loving like Jesus our Lord and Saviour. Dedicated to prayer and faithfulness her eternal home was a sanction for peace and prayed for by Cathy for her family to also take refuge in.

Although Cathy’s physical presence may no longer grace our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. As you continue to worship Jesus up there, dear Cathy, your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
