Caroll Somers Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Caroll Susann Somers (née Kirkpatrick) on January 28, 2025, at the age of 80, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 4, 1944, Caroll lived a life filled with love, faith, and devotion to her family.
Caroll grew up on a farm in Shelburne, Ontario, where she was raised by her loving parents, Keith and Mary Kirkpatrick. Her rural upbringing instilled in her a strong work ethic, deep appreciation for nature, and the values of kindness and generosity that she carried throughout her life.
She was the beloved wife of the late Murray Somers, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they settled in Georgetown, Ontario, where they built a loving home and raised their son, Scott Somers. Caroll was a devoted mother and a cherished grandmother to Olivia and Jackson Somers. She was also a dear sister to Jim Kirkpatrick and sister-in-law to Brenda Kirkpatrick.
Caroll enjoyed her time working at GH Woods, Chrysler, and Maple Lodge. However, her greatest role was that of a loving and selfless mother. She stepped away from work to raise Scott, ensuring he always had her unwavering support and guidance. She instilled in him the values of kindness, integrity, and compassion, shaping the person he is today. She was an incredible friend to many—kind, thoughtful, and always willing to lend a hand.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. As a dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League, she nurtured a deep and personal relationship with God and the Catholic Church. She found great joy in traveling, especially on family trips to Florida, where she made cherished memories with her loved ones.
Caroll and Murray shared a love for gardening, tending to their plants with the same care and devotion they gave to their family. She also had a special gift in the kitchen—able to turn even a simple boxed cake mix into a masterpiece.
Caroll’s kindness, warmth, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love and selflessness will live on in those who were fortunate enough to know her.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 14400 Argyll Rd, Georgetown. A luncheon will follow in the church reception hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ian Anderson House, the hospice that provided comfort and care to Caroll in her final days. Donations can be made online at www.ianandersonhouse.com.
Rest peacefully, Caroll. You will always be in our hearts.
