Carol Vovchuk Obituary
CAROL VOVCHUK (nee Rathgeber)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carol Vovchuk on February 20, 2025, at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 81.
Carol is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Victor and their children Kevin (Sue), Shannon (Tim), Shelley (Wayne) and grandchildren Samantha, Alex, Abby, Rachel, Jessica and Ethan.
Carol was born near Saltcoats, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm with her parents, Lou and Carrie, and her siblings Albert, Gordon, Phyllis, Vera, Eileen and Elaine.
After graduating from high school in Churchbridge, Saskatchewan, Carol attended Technical School in Regina and graduated with a Secretarial Diploma. Having first met in elementary school, Carol later married the love of her life Victor on October 10, 1964 in Churchbridge. They lived in several towns in rural Saskatchewan and Carol held various administrative positions before they moved to The Pas in 1970. Carol then chose to focus on raising her young family and later re-entered the workforce with the Kelsey School Division in 1979. Over her 21-year career, Carol started as an Educational Assistant and progressed to hold the position of Senior Administrative Assistant at Margaret Barbour Collegiate Institute.
Carol and Vic lived in The Pas and area for 50 years, the last 28 years at their beloved cottage on the North Shore of Rocky Lake. Over that time, they made many lifelong friendships and shared countless enjoyable moments. Carol’s favorite place in the world was her oasis at Rocky Lake. When they were not at the lake, Carol and Vic loved to travel and enjoyed many cruises and travel adventures.
Carol was an outdoor enthusiast, finding peace and happiness in nature. She loved taking her daily walk, no matter how cold the day and many other outdoor activities, including snowmobiling, boating, and fishing whenever the opportunity arose. She was undoubtedly the best fisherman in the family. She also loved tending to her large flower and vegetable gardens.
Above all, mom loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She always made sure visits with Grandma made each grandchild feel special and loved and she seemed to have endless energy, filling those visits with fun and memorable activities.
We are blessed to have had you in our lives and you will live on in our hearts forever.
Carol’s celebration of life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Seasons Funeral Chapel, Oakbank, Manitoba.
If lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit or a charity of your choice.
