C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Carmaine Potvin Paquette, survenu le 14 août 2025 à l’âge de 93 ans à la Maison McCulloch Hospice, entourée de sa famille, après un court et agressif combat contre le cancer.
Née le 20 février 1932 à Gogama, elle était la fille de feu Georgianna Serré et de feu Joseph Potvin. Elle est également prédécédée par ses frères et sœurs : Laurette Redmond, Radolph Potvin, Omer Potvin, Florence Kunze, Jeannette Carlson, Germaine Hyvonen et Jeannine Potvin. Épouse bien-aimée de feu Rosaire Paquette, décédé en 2018.
Elle laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: Joseph (prédécédé), Nicole Bernatchez (Jacques), Gilles Paquette (Nicole), Donald Paquette (Anne), Jean Paquette (Chantal) et Diane Paquette (Guy). Grand-maman chérie et très fière de Patrick Paquette (prédécédé), Isabelle Paquette (David), Julie Durocher (Jean-François), Angélique Ouimet (James), Marie-France Berriault (Travis), Élyse Paquette, Myriam Paquette, Danica Paquette (Isaak) et Sean McDonald (Becky). Arrière-grand-maman de Béatrice, Louis-Philippe, Élodie et Maripier, Allyster, Graeme et Théodore, ainsi qu’un(e) petit(e)-enfant à venir (Isabelle).
Carmaine a consacré son amour à sa famille. Passionnée de jeux de cartes, elle aimait tricoter, colorier des mandalas, cuisiner et profiter de la nature paisible et sereine. Sa foi catholique profonde lui a donné courage et force dans les moments difficiles.
Elle a affronté l’avenir avec bravoure. Déterminée, elle ne se plaignait jamais et ne pensait qu’à ses proches. Son corps ne pouvait plus lutter malgré la force de la volonté divine qu’elle portait en elle. Nous trouvons la paix en sachant que ses souffrances sont terminées, mais son héritage de bonté, de compassion et d’ouverture d’esprit continuera de nous guider dans notre propre cheminement.
Nous tenons à remercier notre belle-sœur Nicole Paquette pour avoir passé d’innombrables nuits auprès de maman. Sa présence lui a apporté un grand réconfort.
La famille exprime sa profonde gratitude envers le personnel de l’Hôpital du Nord (HSN) et de la Résidence Lasalle pour les soins empreints de compassion durant les derniers moments de maman, ainsi qu’à l’équipe de la Maison McCulloch Hospice pour la dignité et l’amour témoignés lors de ses derniers jours.
Les arrangements funéraires sont confiés à la COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE. Une célébration de la vie aura lieu dans la chapelle à 222 Lasalle boul., Sudbury le vendredi 22 août à 11 h. L’inhumation privée en famille suivra.

It is with profound sadness that we share that Carmaine Potvin Paquette passed away on August 14, 2025, at the age of 93 at the Maison McCulloch Hospice surrounded by her family after a short, aggressive battle with cancer.
She was born on Feb 20, 1932, in Gogama. Predeceased by her parents Georgianna Serré and Joseph Potvin. Predeceased by her siblings Laurette Redmond, Radolph Potvin, Omer Potvin, Florence Kunze, Jeannette Carlson, Germaine Hyvonen, Jeannine Potvin. Beloved wife of the late Rosaire Paquette deceased in 2018. Cherished mother of Joseph(predeceased), Nicole Bernatchez (Jacques), Gilles Paquette (Nicole), Donald Paquette (Anne), Jean Paquette (Chantal) and Diane Paquette (Guy). Cherished and very proud grandmother to Patrick Paquette (predeceased), Isabelle Paquette (David), Julie Durocher (Jean Francois), Angélique Ouimet (James), Marie-France Berriault (Travis), Elyse Paquette, Myriam Paquette, Danica Paquette (Isaak) and Sean McDonald (Becky). Great grandma to Béatrice, Louis Phillippe, Élodie and Maripier, Allyster, Graeme and Theodore and one on its way (Isabelle).
Carmaine devoted her love to her family. She was an avid card player, enjoyed knitting and colouring mandala pages, a great baker and cook and enjoyed the peaceful and serene nature. Her strong Catholic faith gave her courage and strength during times of great difficulties.
She braved what laid ahead of her. She was strong willed with no complaints and only concerned about her loved ones. Her body could no longer fight despite the strength of God’s will that she carried in her mind. We found peace knowing her suffering has ended, but her legacy of kindness, compassion, being non judgemental, will continue to live on to guide us through our next journey.
We would like to thank our sister-in-law Nicole Paquette for spending endless nights with mom. She brought her great comfort knowing she wasn’t alone.
The family extends deep gratitude to the staff at HSN and Lasalle Residence for their compassionate care during mom’s final chapter and to the team at Maison McCulloch Hospice for the dignity and love they showed on her final days.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted with the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of life will be held in the Chapel at 222 Lasalle Blvd., Sudbury, on Friday, August 22nd, at 11:00 am. A private family burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by cheque or online to the Health Sciences North – Northern Cancer Fund or the Maison McCulloch Hospice.
