Obituary of Carl Archie Fletcher
FLETCHER – Carl of St Thomas, Surrounded by family, Carl passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at the St Thomas-Elgin General Hospital from complications of treatment of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He will be remembered for his optimism, enthusiasm, wisdom, kindness, creativity, humour and storytelling. As a people person, he rarely complained and often gave thanks. Carl loved to travel and to sing, writing music and lyrics. Loved by his wife, Kathryn (nee Julian); beloved and loving children Jean (Zack Kruzins), Neil (Hailey), Mark (Tiffany) and John; adored grandchildren Evelyn and Tobias Fletcher. Predeceased by his parents, Ethel (nee Baker) and Archie Allan Fletcher, he will be missed by siblings Bonnie Murray (Charlie), Ray (Cathy), Nancy Harper (Ron) and Marie Levers (Andy), brothers-in-law Kirby Julian (Barb), and Stephen Julian (Naida Graham) and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and their families.
A graduate of Laurier High School and the University of Guelph, for most of his career, Carl worked in various roles for the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (and Rural Affairs). He was an active volunteer at Central United Church, St Thomas; a volunteer project manager for S.H.A.R.E. Agricultural Foundation; and helped with various activities and projects for OAC 79 especially the Honey Bee Research Centre building project.

Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home, 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The memorial service will be held at Central United Church, 135 Wellington Street, St Thomas on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to service. Private interment of ashes in Elmdale Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. If desired, donations to Central United Church, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada or Luckevich Family Honey Bee Research Centre in his name would be appreciated.
