The family of
Carl “Garth” MacKenzie, aged 79, announces his peaceful
passing on Monday, January 27, 2025, at the Dr. John M. Gillis
Memorial Lodge, with family by his side. Born in Cardigan, PEI, Garth
was the son of the late Marion MacKenzie (née Nicholson)
and the late Norman MacKenzie.
Garth worked at
the family business, Cardigan Garage before moving to Ontario, where
he enjoyed a successful career as a diesel mechanic with Mississauga
Transit. Known for his quick wit and mischievous grin, Garth returned
to his family home in Cardigan upon retirement. In recent years, he
resided at the Dr. John M. Gillis Memorial Lodge, where he received
excellent care and attention, entertaining staff and residents with
his stories from his younger years.
Garth is
predeceased by his parents, Marion and Norman MacKenzie; his sisters,
Ruth MacDonald, Norma MacNeil, and Elaine MacNeil; and his brothers,
Bill MacKenzie and Donnie MacKenzie.
He is survived by
his sister-in-law, Claire MacKenzie, Cardigan; brother-in-law, Howard
MacNeil, Burnt Point; brother-in-law Doug MacDonald, Florida, nieces
and nephews including Kim, Darcy (Patti), Michelle (Geoff), Greg, Vern
(Teresa), Gary (Dawn), Darryl, Ryan (Christine), and Ian. As well as
many great nieces and nephews including Nate, JD, Brooklyn, Will,
Conor (Julia) Eloise, Colette, Hailey (Patrick), Ava, Katie (Sam)
Aryana, Kelley, Maverick, Chris, Amy and Sarena.
Visitation will be held at Ferguson Logan Montague
Funeral Home on Sunday, Feb 2, 2025 from 4 to 6 pm. A celebration of
Garth’s life will take place on Monday, Feb 3, 2025 11am from at the
funeral home chapel with live streaming, followed by interment in St.
Andrew’s Presbyterian cemetery, Cardigan.
Memorial donations may be made in Garth’s memory to
the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Cemetery Fund,
Cardigan.
