Bryan John Buckingham Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Bryan John Buckingham, who peacefully left us at the age of 77 on February 21, 2025, with his sister Noreen by his side.
Bryan was predeceased by his beloved parents, Harvey (Jack) and Iris, and his brother-in-law, Randy. He will be deeply missed by his sister Noreen, his nephew Christopher and his wife Nicole, his niece Angela and her partner Caspar, and his grand-niece Arielle.
Bryan was a dedicated and hardworking individual, spending over 40 years of his life working at Canada Post’s Gateway location. He took great pride in his work and his commitment to his job.
Bryan grew up as an active and proud member of a vibrant deaf community, attending school at the School of the Deaf in Belleville from the age of five and spending many summers at the Bob Rumball Camp for the Deaf. He was part of an active community at the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf. Most recently he enjoyed fellowship through his Saturday morning bible study group and services online or in person at the Evangelical Church for the Deaf at the Bob Rumball Centre or the Church on the Queensway – all of this leading to most of his lifelong friendships.
Much of Bryan’s pre-adult life also included summers at the cottage on Long Line Lake in Baysville with his sister Noreen, parents and his dog ‘Cap’ – with whom he was inseparable. Days were spent fishing, swimming, being out on the boat and having diving competitions with his sister for old shoes.
An avid sports fan, Bryan followed the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs with unwavering enthusiasm throughout his life. His love for sports was matched by his enjoyment of simple pleasures—his annual trips to the CNE, cozy dinners with family and friends at Swiss Chalet (1/4 chicken white with a plain baked potato), and his fondness for fish and chips. A true Tim Hortons enthusiast, Bryan could always be found enjoying teas and snacks (this changed from coffee to Earl Grey tea over the years). Bryan enjoyed a simple life with simple pleasures – often guilty of going on long errand runs in his car that were just an excuse to be out observing life and striking up interactions with people who he met along the way. This personality quality spilled over to his life in his condo building – known by most as smiling and friendly.
Bryan’s family and friends will forever remember him for his gentle friendly spirit, his love for a simple life, and the joy he brought to those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Friends and family will be welcomed to pay their respects at Ridley Funeral Home (3080 Lake Shore Blvd. W., Etobicoke) on Saturday, March 1st from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
